PERSONAL

Born on November 7, 1958 in Fort Worth, Texas to Dr. & Mrs. Donald Brooks; attended Nolan Catholic High School. His family has been deeply involved in medical care for over 50 years; his brother, sister-in-law and cousin all maintain active medical practices in Fort Worth, Texas. His father and uncle, now deceased, practiced here for a combined total of over 80 years.


POSTGRADUATE EDUCATION

3 year dermatology residency from 7/84 to 7/87:

  • Howard University Hospital (Washington, D.C.)
  • D.C. General Hospital
  • Veteran's Hospital of Washington D.C.
  • Children's Hospital of Washington D.C.
  • 1 year medical internship at D.C. General Hospital with the Howard University Medical Service from 7/83 to 7/84.

MEDICAL SCHOOL

Howard University College of Medicine from 5/79 to 5/83.


COLLEGE

Bachelor of Science granted in 5/81: Selected for accelerated academic program, he completed his degree in only 2 years.

ADVISORY POSITIONS

Served as a consultant for several pharmaceutical companies including the following:

  • Alcon Laboratories
  • Genentech
  • Connectis Corp
  • Warner-Chilcott
Work ranged from conducting clinical trials of new products awaiting FDA approval to participating in intensive discussions of the relative merits of existing products.


PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • 2/92 to present: Private Practice in Ft Worth, TX
  • 2/91 to 2/92: MDM Dermatology of Houston, TX
  • 1/90 to 1/91: Kaiser Permanente of Dallas, TX

COMMUNITY SERVICE

  • Tutored at-risk youth twice weekly at Bethlehem Center, a non-profit United Way Educational Center, from February 2004 to March 2005
  • Participated in a skin cancer screening health fair and has spoken to numerous medical and non-medical groups on various health care topics.
  • Former faculty member of The University of North Texas Health Science Center from 9/98 - 9/02; he hosted medical students in his office for 1-month externships.
  • Served on Board of Directors for Jesse Jackson Charter School (unrelated to the civil rights activist), an alternative school for inner city teenagers.
